I always wanted to know - when do you say that? is it interchangeable with baruch hashem?

I feel dumb, but I really don't know - when would you answer a question with "chasdei hashem" instead of "baruch hashem"? (and for how long do you have to be frum to know this stuff? apparently 20 years isn't enough!  )

I believe you can use them both for the same situations. To me chasdei hashem sounds warmer, I don't think I really use it.

I would say that most people say "boruch hashem" for everyday good health etc. And "chasdei hashem" for an out-of-the-ordinary occurance.
For example, "How are you?" "Fine, boruch hashem". As opposed to: "I got a flat tire, but chasdei hashem my neighbor was just driving by and changed it for me so I was able to get to my destination on time".

well I had a boss that you used it for everything. He would come in in the morning and ask 'how are you?' and I would answer something like b"h fine and he would say in a strong loud voice 'Chasdei Hashem!' I don't think that I really heard it used beforehand only in stories where there was a big neis.
