We live OOT (U.S.) and are considering mesivta options for our oldest. We’re BT and this is all new. People keep suggesting places where the boys are somewhat struggling with their yiddishkeit. Please tell me there’s a place that takes boys who aren’t great learners, but are solid in their yiddishkeit. We do know about Shaarei Arazim and Shaarei adirim but have been advised they might not be a great fit. The hanhala has been really pushing for a mesivta that we think will bring him down since he very much goes with the crowd and needs a good chevra. this is hard!

Look into Mekor Hatorah in Lakewood. It may be more yeshivish then shaarei arazim but its not "very yeshivish". They have a dorm.

It’s impossible. We tried. I hope you have better luck then us. The best we could find was a local Yeshiva that was willing to work with us. If you are ok with a MO boys only school look at some of the big schools like MTA that have lots of different levels for subjects. I know you wrote mesivta though.

Flmommy, probably we’ll have to go the local route but it’s so problematic. The mesivta that would be our only local option (the other local one is too rigorous) has some kids with drug issues and all kinds of tech problems and my kid is so easily convinced to do what his friends are doing, really poor judgement unfortunately. I’m sorry you had a hard time finding options, it’s so difficult for this type of kid! Wishing you hatzlocha with your son.

Or mekor hatorah in Lakewood

You can call r’ Strauss in Lakewood. He is an expert in recommending mesivtas for all types of boys- no charge.
