I just moved to the suburbs from the city so the whole backyard camp concept is very new to me. There are a number of regular camps as well as backyard camps locally and I’m really struggling which to send my kids to. Have a 6 yr old and 4 yr old. I want to send to a real day camp camp because I feel the facilities and activities are better because of the larger scale. My husband says since my kids are young, they won’t notice a difference and will have just as much fun at a backyard camp-and he’s probably right. I just can’t figure out why I’m hesitant to send to one

Awww I live in the city but love the backyard style daycamps.
Just ask around about the particular one, safety, counselor/ camper ratio etc

I think it depends on the kids.
I find official camps are very loud and busy. Backyard camps are more personal.
My kids thrived in backyard camps and I think they gained tremendously. When they aged out they really missed it.
I think 4 yr old and 6 yr old would do much better in backyard camp then daycamp. For sure not s huge day camp where they would be an after thought.
If you do send to backyard do lots of reasearch.
Staff to counselor ratio
Ages
Ages of assistance
Are parents home always
So they know cpr
Do they go on trips. What is transportation
What water activities. Who supervises. What if a kid needs the bathroom
What are facilities like
Etc.
