Hi!
I’m urgently seeking a therapist for my intelligent & energetic 7 year old who’s behaviorally challenged, defiant, manipulative & socially inept. His school is at their wits end & recommended dir floortime therapy? Does anyone have any recommendations for the above or any other suggestions?? I’m in Brooklyn but can travel for an eval.

I saw lots of progress. Steady but slow. Progress with anything depends also on the work you do at home. Floortime is beautiful!!! We did lots of OT as well and that helped calm him down a lot. Another thing I recently did was take Blimy Hellers parenting course. Her approach is similar to floortime and She helped me so much with my son!

I feel so pressured by the yeshiva. They want change today!! I know that it takes time. I’m working the the book ‘Nurtured Heart Approach” and seeing sloooooow progress. But in school it’s a different story. Who did you do OT with?

But isn’t that extremely different than floortime?!

Isn’t a child life specialist someone who deals with illness and hospitalization?

I never heard of a child life specialist. What kind of modality do they use?

I chose floortime because it comes highly recommended. Anyone was successful with a different type of therapy for a behaviorally challenged child??

They definitely spend a lot of their training in hospitals, but Bruchy is also a licensed social worker. So she combines her therapy with child life work (which basically works with the child going through difficulties of any kind).
Having worked with her, I think her approach is very similar to floor time. Very much focused on attachment, play, and helping a child learn skills through gentle interventions. She works with the parents too.
