Most people drive to market. Need to carry groceries to car and then again into the house.

Really? I hate the bag ban because I walk. If I had a car, I wouldn't complain about not having bags. I have hands.

In NJ, stores are giving out paper bags instead of plastic now. It’s not so bad.

Do they come with handles so they can be hung on strollers?
I can just imagine paper bags ripping and apples rolling around in the streets.

Reusable bags are either expensive or worse quality than disposable. Before the bag ban passed, I was using the same disposable bag for a year. Now I'm hoarding them.

Yes they do. If a bag is heavy I put it in the stroller basket.

It's kind of ridiculous, everything we buy is wrapped in plastic, but bags, oh no, let's ban those!
They should at least be consistent and ban plastic altogether.

They should ban Democrats instead.

Wonderful.

If you can carry library books back and forth in a plastic bag - you'll adjust easily to bringing bags to the grocery.

There is no ban on paper bags. They can sell those to you, or give those to you.

The are however, required to have on hand for sale reusable bags.

Not from what I've read. They're required to charge for the paper bags.

I bought reusable bags for my shopping which will need water to be washed and a case of plastic bags for lining garbages, throwing out diapers, and packing lunches. So now instead of using one type of bag for both things I’m using each bag just once. I’m confused

I believe that in the old USSR they didn't have disposable plastic bags either... somehow they managed. Interesting how copying an old communist country is called progress....

Did you read the final regulations?

351-2.2 Sale of reusable bags by stores.
(a) The operator of a store must:
(1) make reusable bags available to customers within the store for purchase or at no charge; and
(2) permit a reusable bag to be used by a customer in lieu of a paper carryout bag.
(b) Reusable bags available for purchase shall be sold at a price determined by the operator of
the store.

May the biggest problem in your life be helping the environment by not using so many plastic bags.

This. Geez. The problems of first world countries.
In Israel they charge us 10 agurot a bag. It's nothing, really, but it makes people think ten times. Some people care about the extra shekel they will pay for 10 bags, but most are suddenly more aware of the impact on the environment.

I would say in my city at least 60% have moved to reusable plastic bags. They are MUCH stronger than the plastic bags, which were pretty much good for groceries and then maybe for a diaper in the garbage. I don't know what kind of plastic bags you had there in America, and what kind of reusables, but here there is no comparison at all. The reusable is a million times stronger.

People who come to only buy 3 small things just don't use a bag at all, they walk out with their items in hand.

They do still sell huge plastic garbage bags. So it's not a ban on all plastic bags. The truth is though, that Israel is one of the biggest plastic litterers in the world. Our beaches are full of plastic, especially the flimsy cheap supermarket plastic bags. (People used to take 20 extra 'just to have' when shopping). So hopefully this will make a big impact.
