I don’t see anywhere no data, no statistics and no credentials as someone who is a specialist in epidemiology . How can he explain what’s going on in Italy with their collapse of health care system?
If this virus is less dangerous than flu how come in Italy they have to choose now who to save ? Why in Korea they face the same dilemma? Why in Iran there are so many members of the parliament are dead now ? It’s just words, of one person , no prove for anything he is saying. Nothing. And from the other side we have many-many international experts, CDC, Chinese doctors who were fighting the disease , WHO with many experts and we have facts what’s going on in medical systems where there only a few thousands cases . Not millions like with the flu . Only a few thousands !!!
This person or is a LIER or delusional . And very dangerous. I would not trust him as a doctor .

He is an extremely respected top surgeon who is part of the LA Frum community. The original pdf has a chart attached with data. His message isn’t not to be careful. It’s to quit the panic.

I really hope that no one will follow this crazy person advice and will not be a part of spreading the virus , not for the sake of himself and not for the sake of their friends, relatives and people of his country. Only if you really hate everyone.

What panic ? To buy toilet paper ? Or to be careful not to spread the virus in the community- the most sensible thing to do NOW . Before it’s too late - like in Italy or Iran .

Thank you. Would you avoid flying? My son's Yeshiva is going on a trip that involves air travel. I could keep him at home but I was thinking he will be exposed to those boys who are travelling when they get back to Yeshiva any way.

Update: I spoke to my son's doctor. She said he is at no increased risk due to the biologics. In fact, they are actually using Humira in treating Coronavirus. He can fly. He should not skip his injection. Like all of us, he should be vigilant in washing his hands - 20 seconds with soap and hot water. No touching his face etc.

I agree. He's a head and neck surgeon. Not an epidemiologist, not an infectious disease specialist. I don't know why he even took upon himself to speak up now. Don't panic but do take precautions and do take this outbreak seriously! It is not a joke!

actually there are many reports out of china that their government's official reports of "recovery" of stores, manufacturing, etc. are completely bogus.

Such a paradox!

The best "results" are out of countries that are taking this VERY SERIOUSLY!
Quarantining, tracking, screening, stopping flights, closing schools, and so on.

This is in contradiction to some who saying pretty much to live life as usual! That is what leads to the worst results as we have seen thus far from different countries in which the disease has progressed earlier and further.

Obviously all up to Hashem.

The panic is only ensuing in the countries where the government is telling everyone to be calm, just wash your hands and you'll be fine. In the countries where people are trusting the precautions that are taking place (though obviously all in Hashem's hands), there is much less panic. Eg. there's much less stockpiling taking place in Israel.

This cartoon from the guardian is a perfect depiction:

Probably at the beginning of the outbreak in China, doctors reacted the way this doctor wrote, and that was to prevent panic.

Once China saw where this virus takes them, they totally changed their minds and react very aggressively.

Why wait to experience what China did? Why not be aggressive RIGHT NOW to PREVENT the size of crisis.

Yes, lock down complete cities to avoid worse.

They say that the masks don’t help but they are lying because there aren’t enough in the western world Sad In China and Korea and Japan everyone is in masks . But you have to know how to use it properly otherwise they don’t help . And also you have to cover eyes - this virus can get through the eyes also . And on you clothes , that’s why in Korea they are advised to change clothes and take a shower immediately after getting home . No shoes inside the house . And keep distance at least 1 meter with everyone .

That's not true.
They are saying to save the masks for the healthcare workers, because that's more important.

Happy Purim to everyone Heart

I heard from somebody who was told that if you drink hot water throughout the day that can prevent the virus getting into the system. Not sure how accurate it is but apparently the virus doesn't survive very well in heat. Try to stay warm.

Please G-d a miracle should happen and the virus be eradicated from this world. And all its victims should be healed.

http://www.bresciatoday.it/cro......html
Please read the interview with this Italian doctor and what he is saying, actually seeing what is covid 19 first hand .
I want your doctor look into his eyes and repeat his “flu is worse”

Having children learn online is not "simple". Its a great solution for older kids, but not very young ones. And even the children it is a good solution for, parents will have to stay home and look after them. (and its hard to get your own work done while this is going on - speaking from experience, should you be lucky enough to have a job that you can work at home)

If parents are healthcare workers or other essential workers that can be quite problematic.

Of course it might be necessary, but it's not simple and will have an impact economically.

In the US, a large numbers of colleges are moving towards this. Harvard is closing for the year, with all classes going online. Other schools are closing down their large lectures. Every college I know of is trying to ramp up online possibility. I don't know if that's the best idea on earth. These kids aren't going to stay home. They'll be going out. And they'll be interacting with older relatives.

But you're right. Its a lot more difficult for younger kids, especially the ones who may have attention issues, or who need more help. I'm a great believer in the efficacy of good teachers. Our kids need them.

Will these schools be paying the teachers? I guess, since they'll be doing the online thing But what about the janitorial staff and security people and dining hall and all the others who depend on this for a living?

Anyone know what the story is with kids in Israel? Are the yeshivas and seminaries going to shut down?

School going online isn't fair to adults either. Online is considered inferior, based on the pricing of online college vs regular.

Closing schools is disproportionately harder for poor and working class children.

Many children rely on food from school lunch and breakfast programs.

How are working parents going to find child care let alone affordable child care.

Actually quarantines nit harder on poorer people because most don’t have jobs which would enable the, to telecommute.
