We are thinking to move to Amsterdam or somewhere in the UK. I'm Dutch native didn't grow up in Amsterdam but I know the community very well. However, the prices of the houses are sooooo high. Like you pay 350 thousand for a 2 bedroom app in the Jewish area. The same is for London, my dh wants to buy in this less Jewish area but I don't want because I don't want to lock up with a baby here without Jewish playmates and a mikvah an hour away. My husband doesn't want to go to Manchester because he finds the weather not pleasant there. He loves the Netherlands, the simplicity over there, but I know you have less choice for schools there.
So London is too expensive Amsterdam is too expensive even Amstelveen is too expensive. We were once thinking about Antwerp but we don't have any ties with Antwerp and we are not chassidish or comfortable with an chareidi lifestyle.

So which community will be a good fit for us? We are frum, I cover my hair with a sheital/tichel, we have TV and unfiltered internet (because DH is a computer specialist) we are not shomer negiah in the way that if we go to the dentist we shake a hand because we don't want to be rude. We read secular books and magazines but not on Shabbos. Dh prays 3 times a day and does everything that a Jewish man does. We are having both a progressive/leftwing mindset where we live by. As in my husband vote for Clinton (he is half American) and he voted somethign Green the last UK elections. So if there are openminded people it would be nice. My husband wears no hat, but white shirts/suits on shabbos and YT.

Is there a place maybe somewhere else in the UK where we can go? A place with a mikvah, shuls and koshershops?

If you are willing to pick up and move anywhere, why not Israel? Why go to a dying community with rising antisemitism? You'll be able to find a community in Israel.

First which dying community?
DH doesn't like Israel, and he has a good income especially in the EU. We don't like Israel in general and the lifestyle there.

Leeds has shuls, schools, shops, mikvahs etc and a drier climate than Manchester (which is only an hour's drive, if you need access to a much larger community). The cost of living is much cheaper than in London and the Jewish area borders on a beautiful national park to the north of the city.

Otherwise, what countries would you be willing to consider. You make several references to the EU, but besides Dutch, which languages do you speak well enough to integrate into a community and find work there?

Where are you now? I assume you are Ashkenazi? Because that will also make a difference in where to suggest. Would you be willing to move to a predominantly Sephardi community?

How about Hendon, Edgware? London might be expensive but you get a lot of benefits which help a GREAT deal!
IMO, you could also very well fit into Antwerp. They do have a chassidish community there but on the other hand also a lot of very open minded ppl (TV, open internet, etc.)
You'd have good school options for your kids, you don't have a lot of parnassah options though.
Good luck!

It's a shame he won't consider Manchester as I would have said it ticks your boxes. There are so many communities in Manchester and so much diversity. {and as someone who lives there, the weather really isn't so bad, it just has a bad rep}
I wouldn't consider going to an area in london that isn't in the Jewish area. It is still expensive compared to other parts of the country. Also schools etc get difficult.
Have you thought about Leeds? It's not as established as London or Manchester, but it still has a nice sized kehilla etc. Otherwise I'm not sure if Newcastle still has some sort of presence at all (it's right next to Gateshead).

Hendon really is wonderful. It’s similar in cost to other London areas. Edgeware doesn’t have many school options but is cheaper. If you’re looking to relocate now things may be cheaper with the economy.

I agree. There are only a couple degrees difference between the weather, London and Manchester. Yes it's a bit drier too but it's SO much cheaper here. We bought a house. We'd still be renting a flat if we'd live in London and throwing all that money away. Come to Manchester Smile so many different shuls and schools here. Surrounded by kosher shops. For a fraction of the price.

Borehamwood seems to be an up and coming community, near London... Lots of young families, still cheap housing, as far as I heard...

She said London was too expensive, where ELSE should she look. London is growing (slowly, charedi neighborhoods only) but where else in Europe is Jewish population growing? Berlin, maybe, but not for a religious family. And, of course, it's Berlin.

London is growing 'slowly?' The chareidi neighborhoods are bursting at the seams, there's a housing crisis.

London as a whole is growing very slowly. Only charedi neighborhoods are seeing growth. But read the op. London is too expensive for her. And even if not, her husband doesn't want to live someplace like Stamford Hill. So the options open to her are not the growing neighborhoods in London.
