My male GP said to me that I may still get pregnant so be careful to use birth control. "The shop is still open." I felt that this comment was crude and unnecessary after telling me about birth control. Would you be offended and what would you do/say?

Sounds like an amusing quip to me. Personally I would have laughed. 🤷♀️

In the delivery room, right after I gave birth, and as he was leaving, the dr said: see you next year.
Highly inappropriate, too imo

Male OBs can be so corny. Not worth it to get offended.
(Yes I know that many are NOT corny. My post is about the other ones)

I wouldn’t be offended at all. I enjoy a play on words and some humor in life.
I do know some people are more sensitive so I also understand that you were offended and I’m sorry that you felt that way.

When I read the title though, I was sure this is a covid thread and drs opinion about a store that never closed.

Yes.
It would be sad to live in a world where people are forced to be dry and personality-less because people can't take a sense of humor. We are already generally heading that way, everyone really needs to be their own censor, but I think everyone is healthier when we stop looking for reasons to be offended.

If you feel a joke is in poor taste, you can give a snarky comeback.
"You'd better hope it stays open, or your salary won't get paid!"
Definitely not worth it to get offended, though.

Gosh! Sorry op, that it offended you. I’m struggling with IF, and my ob once told me come back with twins. But he’s known to have a sense of humor so o laughed along with him.

I just asked my doc today if she would go back to the gym so I thought the same about this!

I was being transferred to a room at Maimonides after giving birth and a nurse called out "See you next year." 7 years ago I was told the same thing. I found it funny the first time but was a little weirded out the second time. Do they say it to all Jewish patients?

My Dr said this to me at my post partum visit. I don't see what's wrong. I chuckled and said "who knows" and we both laughed. Nothing wrong.

THIS would bother me. Commenting on someone's body like that is extremely inappropriate.

It wouldn't bother me, but you do you. If you found it offensive or crude, say so. Otherwise he'll never know he may have been offensive.

That's less offensive -- the doctor could be referring to an annual visit in a year.
