Trees, Scaffoldings and Building Walls Damaged in Severe Winds

BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — The national weather service issues a severe weather alert today covering most of New York City, warning residents of winds gusting up to 60mph, this advisory is in affect till 6:00am Monday.

Affects of these high winds spread across Brooklyn, in Flatbush six stories of scaffolding collapsed on East 12th Street and Avenue O causing severe damage to many parked cars, thankfully spearing pedestrians. In Sun Set Park a massive tree came crashing down on a house and parked cars, while a few blocks away a house under renovation had its entire exterior wall come crumbling down. While in the Bronx electric wires came down causing large power outages in the area.

The extreme winds combined with the arctic cold front brought real feel temperatures down to under -5 Fahrenheit. In all the incidents across the city there were no reported injuries thank g-d.

That's my parents' block. Some scaffolding fell down, crushed 2 parked cars, downed a power line and caused an electrical fire in the street on Sunday afternoon. Nobody was hurt and if anybody did lose power it was not for long at all. The fire department did close the block off for a few hours. That's all.
