My nephew is menachem/mannie (used interchangeably) and when he was a baby we called him “little man”

My husband is Menachem Mendel and here in South America some people call him Ména.

Friend's brother went by Mini. It was cute.
As he got older he transitioned to Menachem.

I know a Menachem named Mechy but he says it was so confusing since there is a name Mechel and people confused him for a Yechiel Mechel instead of a Menachem. Says he'd rather have been called the typical Mendy.

Im confused, why would you call a Menachem, Mendy? I only heard of Mendy for boys who are Menachem Mendel or plain Mendel.
