Can someone provide me with a link to CDC that says that if my kid is awaiting test results our whole family has to quarantine?
Someone said that's the rules.
I want to do what's right, but that sounds excessive.
Please help. Thanks

Cdc does not tell anyone what they have to do. They just make recommendations. That said, they recommend that the person waiting for results should self quarantine. https://www.cdc.gov/coronaviru......html
ETA if someone has classic covid symptoms or developed any symptoms after known exposure, I think it's fairly obvious that's it's only mentchlich for the family to quarantine. In that case it's almost definitely going to be positive.

My tenth grader is finally set to go back to school on Tuesday, her school sent a letter saying that anyone with a quarantined family member should stay home, I think it makes sense if you want to be extra careful. Most school outbreaks start from a mid coming in while a sibling is waiting for an answer. While it’s not the law where I live and none of my other kids’ schools require this, it does make sense.

The rules have nothing do to with what’s right and you know that...

It probably depends on the laws where you are and the school policies.
Also, it probably depends if the child who was tested is symptomatic (I didn't catch if that's why they were tested).
ie. if the person tested is symptomatic, then those who are close contacts (ie. people they live with) should probably lie low until the results come back (or maybe have to depending on location). If the person is asymptomatic (and was tested due to potential exposure or some other reason), then those who live with them wouldn't be as concerned of being a contact of a sick person.
Obviously, still follow the rules where you are.
