There's a huge gap between kids in school full time and kids not being able to leave the house. There is a middle ground.

Bullies will bully and kids will commit suicide. Some kids will commit suicide because there is no school, others will commit suicide because there is school. You never cared about the kids who committed suicide because they were forced to attend school even though it wasn't good for them, why do you suddenly care about kids who commit suicide because they can't attend school even though it's not good for them? You care about the ones who prove your point, that what you want is good and what you don't want is bad. You care about the ones who committed suicide when there was no school because you believe your kids are happy in school and fear that your kids will commit suicide next, or because you sympathize with the desire to commit suicide because of lockdown. You care about YOU and your life. Not about the suicidal kids themselves.

First of all I have always cared about suicide. It's something I have always spoken about especially regarding teens. Just because YOU have never been exposed to people advocating for them doesn't mean it didn't exist. This attitude from certain people is beyond. I hear it in every context YOU never cared about blah blah. Most of the time you just didn't know about it because it wasn't on your agenda and if new people care, well that's great I'm glad there is more awareness. In the same vein people die from viruses!! Why do you care about preventing those deaths a million times more than virus deaths? You do realize your extreme view is cruel to people at risk of suicide?

Can we bring this back? For those who think the current approach of keeping the schools closed is correct, what are your suggestions for dealing with this problem? Do you believe that due to the risks, all other outcomes are acceptable if they can't be prevented under these measures?

On a specific note: what do you propose for special needs children or young adults whose programs do not translate to virtual and who are not only rapidly losing skills but in a decent number of cases actually resulting in dangerous situations for themselves and those around them? A remarkable amount of care takes place in schools and is not happening at all now.

Sure! Many yrs experience as a public health RN, masters trained. You work in healthcare? What do you do? Are you taking care of covid patients and suspected covid patients like I am?

Ohhh wowww. You're a NURSE, masters trained. I have two sisters who are NURSES, masters trained, and another sister in another area of HEALTHCARE. My cousin is a DOCTOR- a SPECIALIST- and works the covid floor. I speak with my family members all the time, as we are CLOSE.

So why not check the CDC website?

Anyway, there is no shortage of N95 masks. Don't worry. Go buy some.

And someone bumping into you would not create five minutes of exposure.

CDC is not the only authority.

Guess that depends where you live, here there is a shortage.

I meant bumping into you and staying 1 inch behind you the entire 20 minutes you're waiting in line. Bumping into you in the street and walking 1.5 inches behind you until you finally get to the end of the block and turn right while they go straight. People wearing no masks for a whole 45 minute bus ride, while they cough and insist the windows stay closed. Taking off masks in the hall of an office building and waiting 4 inches away from you, there is no where else to go.

But YOU aren’t actually in healthcare and have no first hand experience. So like I thought. Good job on your family though. I don’t need to tell you how many friends and relatives I have working in medicine but that literally means nothing LOL

There shouldn't be a shortage anywhere. The hospitals in your area are dropping the ball if they can't get proper PPE for their staff at this point.

If the CDC isn't the authority, who is?

Haaaaa

That's SO funneee LOL

You know everything and are SO smart cuz you're one of like thousands of frum nurses! Haaaa.

I must be like so dumb, cuz I didn't choose to go to nursing school like you and numbers of other frum females.

EDIT- By the way, that's not to say that nurses aren't doing incredible work. Of course they are. I can only speak for my own family members- they are intelligent, hardworking, and dedicated to their craft. I wouldn't take the liberty of generalizing this to all healthcare workers- as in all fields, there are some and there are some. Every healthcare worker, like every human, is an individual.

And don't conflate a nursing school diploma with access to some sort of universal group-think information source on all covid-related matters. Clearly, some healthcare workers feel one way and others feel another way.

Intellect is intellect, a diploma is a diploma. They often, but don't always, go hand in hand.

And covid wasn't covered in nursing school.

Good try though, Gold. “Show me your credentials and I’ll show you my non-existent credentials but I know people who work in a hospital” 🤪

I was a very suicidal teenager and no one cared except to gossip. I was suicidal pp and no one cared either. Don't give me cr*p. When the pandemic is over we will go back to being swept under the rug and if I committed suicide now no one would care except to use my death to prove that lockdowns and SD are evil. If I committed suicide before or after covid people would say "ohh so sad tsk tsk tsk too bad they must be so broken she must have had issues for a while now" and then completely forget about it. And we both know it.

Prepandemic we were obviously mental health cases and rachmanus cases, like you see the covid deaths as being, not normal people. Now with covid we are proof that lockdown and SD are bad, when this is over we'll go back to being not normal and rachmanus cases.

I'm sooo glad you cared about us. Other than "always speaking about it" what did you do to help?

I know, hilarious! Aren't I?

But wait! What is these family members have spoken to me at length about these issues and agree with me?

Oh no! Then what?

Existential crisis!

But you're a nurse and you know everything! How can this be?

They have CREDENTIALS and they agree with ME. Impossible.

I am CREDENTIAL-less and therefore totally so stupid and my thoughts are of no value! Ha!

It was on the Times of Israel website and I think that it may have been an opinion piece but I can't find it now.

Special needs should remain open. All of it. The risks are too high for them to stay closed, they are not the ones out partying, their classes/ groups are small.

Everything else can find a capsule solution, do part-time in school and part-time virtual, cancel school and create pods of 2-3 families each who meet only each other, etc. Virtual school but allowing kids to meet at the park, in set groups of 10 kids at a set time, etc. Lots of creative solutions if we're willing to look for them. If virtual school isn't working then homeschool or create a pod.

Thank you, this post is proof of what you are. I'm done arguing with you. The sarcasm, lack of respect, lack of basic compassion and sensitivity is too much for me.

I don't have enough mental energy to spare right now to waste it on someone who speaks so disrespectfully to others.

Because the only way she knows how back up her false statements is to resort to personal attacks.

The question is relevant.

OK. So how are your kids doing with distance learning? Did they struggle in school socially (bullying, etc) prior to lockdown?

Recognize that diff people experience things differently, and that your perception is colored by your own experiences.

Wait- so you asked me a personal question- what are my credentials- but I can't ask her if she has school age children?

Also, you're anonymous. Doubt you could pull this off under your screen name.

Another Cyan was being kind, though. Naturally. Under her screen name.

Well, I wouldn't want to waste any of your mental energy. Enjoy the rest of your day!
