I use this sunscreen and love it! I like that it’s mineral not chemical, and it’s slightly tinted so no white cast.

What’s your current skin care routine?

Under eye circles is a toughy because they can be caused by a billion different things. If it’s genetic, then there’s not much you can do Sad
If it’s hyperpigmentation, I would recommend a vitamin k cream and/or peptide cream. They are antioxidants, which means they attack the malfunctioning oxygens in your skin that attack the DNA. It also helps stimulate collagen production. And I would use a sunscreen to prevent the UV rays from causing extra melanin production.
If it’s because you’re tired, get some sleep Smile
If it’s because your eyes are irritated by your makeup, thus bursting blood vessels and turning under your skin purple, switch makeup brands.

I do. My facewash has salicylic acid in it, which is a BHA.

Up until now I rarely washed my face, sometimes with noxema or cetaphil (which I don't really like). I didn't realize that skin care had a cumulative effect. I thought moisturizing was just for the feel or for the immediate appearance.

I would love to follow up with the above suggested routine with specific products and exactly when and in what order I should put them on. I get overwhelmed by all the choices, specifically anti-aging and eye creams overwhelm me in how many there are and the different purpose of all those ingredients. But I am interested in doing it if I find a feasible product recommendation.

I am trying to address some darkness under my eyes, subtle wrinkles that I want to make less noticeable and what I can to help and prevent anything further. I find daily sunscreen a challenge to find a product that doesn't have a white cast to it.

I would say I have been largely clueless in this area, as well as just having no time to take care of myself and getting little sleep. I would like to improve how I nourish my skin if it will have an impact on it's future appearance and make this part of my self care. I used to consider my skin oily when I was younger not sure now-possibly have normal (more oily on t-zone) and a significant amount of blackheads (maybe cuz I never wash my face).
So if you could give me specific products and a little bit of why/how behind them would be amazing.

I’d love to explain how all the ingredients work.
Since you seem to have pretty normal skin, I wouldn’t use anything harsh.
Try cerave SA cleanser. Salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant which goes deep into the pores and pushes out the sebum, oil, dirt, etc.
For added pizazz, try The Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum. HA is also a chemical exfoliant, but it’s the gentlest one. It plumps the cells up with water, which reduces the appearance wrinkles. It’s a humectant, meaning it draws in moisture from its environment (so apply to lightly damp skin), and it keeps it in.
Then apply Cerave AM moisturizer with spf to lock in moisture and to prevent UVA and UVB damage. Zinc oxide is the active ingredient, and that’s the ingredient that typically leaves a white cast in most sunscreens. This one, however, only leaves a white cast for a few minutes before it sinks into the skin. Zinc oxide acts as a shield to stop the UVA and UVB rays from zapping the elastins in your skin, thus preventing signs of aging. 95% of aging signs are caused by sun damage! Zinc oxide also prevents the rays from attacking the DNA in your skin cells. When DNA is attacked, it starts producing melanin to protect itself, and that’s how you get tan! The problem is, 1- some of the DNA can become malformed and lead to skin cancer 2- you can be left with sun spots and discoloration, which is so hard to fix.

Eye creams are a hoax. Just use your regular moisturizer, unless you have particularly dry under eye skin.
Retinol is a whole speech on its own! I commented once upon a time explaining how it works. I’ll try to link that thread.

So you would put a regular moisturizer right up to under eye and on full eyelids ( as if putting on shadow) as well?
so at night, cleanse, hyaluronic acid, and then what type of moisturizer at night? where do hyaluronic acid serums go on your face exactly? Everywhere? Also eyelids or not for this? should I use salicylic acid cleaner in the am and also pm? is it true that zinc oxide only blocks out mostly one type of rays ( I forgot if its uva or uvb) and is not truly a broad spectrum protection?

I have used AHAVA all in one toning cleanser for some time now. Really gets dirt off that I didn't know was there! If you want to have fun with excellent organic products try THE ORGANIC PHARMACY's Hero Collection. Several kinds of skin care in one set and they tell you in what order to use them. My weekly treat!

I was like you op. I had no idea how to take care of my skin. I made a lot of research and what I learned is as follows.

Wash your face every day

Use a product with retinol & hydraulic acid to smooth wrinkles repair damaged skin . Make sure to follow direction on bottle.

Moisturize, Wear sunscreen it can be 2 in 1

I've been using it for a few weeks already. I see a major difference on my skin. It feels and looks so much better.

Personally I think people invest tons in their skin when in reality taking care internally makes a huge difference. How many of us are drinking the right amount of water? Your skin gets affected by that.
How many of us get an adequate amount of sleep on a regular basis? I don't.
Stress also has a huge impact on the skin.

If you dont initially take care of having less stress, eating better, and sleeping right, no amount of creams will repair that.

Thank you for pointing that out! Agreed. Skin care sometimes can snowball into people taking better care of themselves in other areas as well. I totally hear you though!

Yes. If your eye-skin is very thin and sensitive, it may get irritated. But the only way to know is to try it out. I put on very little, and then I wear sunglasses every single time I go out (besides for night time lol!!!) In the winter, the skin under my eyes gets super dry, so I’ll occasionally use a gel eye cream.
I would recommended washing your face only once a day, preferably at night. The serums go everywhere besides for your eyes. Apply to your fingertips first so that you get the most even coverage.
It should go cleanse, HA and/or niacinamide, moisturizer. I have very dry skin, so I use my daily moisturizer with spf and my nightly moisturizer at the same time.
Ok about sunscreen- there are UVA rays that are long and penetrate deep into the skin. Those are the UV rays that cause wrinkling. There are also UVB rays that are short and affect only the surface of your skin. Those are the rays that cause tanning, sunburning, and skin cancer. UVC rays are stopped even before they get to your skin, so you don’t have to protect yourself from those. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the only sunscreen ingredients that block both A and B.
Cerave A.M. moisturizer is a really good moisturizer and sunscreen. It leaves a white cast for a few minutes before it’s absorbed and disappears. I use it along with the P.M. cream, which is more gel-like and cooling. My skin is really dry, so I need it. I also love the inky list moisturizer, but I don’t think there’s spf in it.

Mirifr, ideal skin care regimens call for washing 2 times a day. Also a leave on exfoliant BHA and or AHA is a game changer. Having the BHA in your cleanser I’m pretty sure isn’t too effective as it washes right off. Op if you have clogged pores and bumps using a leave on exfoliant will do wonders for your skin. (Paula’s choice 4 % BHA is amazing)
Drinking water is great but unfortunately research doesn’t show that drinking water will cause a significant change to your skin in terms of hydration. A moisturizer and a good toner can be great for your skin in regards to hydration.

Good luck!

Mederma pm has been helpful although you can’t really get rid of scaring unfortunately rather minimize their appearance.
I would only buy the tube and not the jar as Im not sure if the ingredients are stable when exposed to air.

I have sensitive and dry skin. Leaving on a BHA is irritating, so I wash it off (it’s actually recommended Wink ). Washing more than 1x a day can be overly stripping, and lead to more problems. Obviously, if it works for you, then good! Keep it up!! Just giving OP a heads up in case something doesn’t work for her.

You are a very kind in how you responded Miri!
If it’s working for you then that’s great!
For anyone who is learning about skin care here goes:) A leave on BHA isn’t supposed to be washed off. A leave on BHA allows the dead skin to come off revealing younger and more radiant looking skin. A properly formulated cleanser shouldn’t strip the skin and you would want to use products that moisturize. When you are washing your face your face shouldn’t feel dry or tight. If it feels that way then you are using the wrong cleanser.

I work in a lab, so I can only tell you the science behind certain ingredients and some anecdotes. Everything else, I’ll leave up to the dermatologists, estheticians, and skin care specialists! Advice from here is nice, too!
