for kids especially, always would go with a shoes store, reputable well built shoe. Low quality not well cosntructed can create a damage for long term that will cost lots on medical bills.

School shoes, yes. Because my kids are a hard fit.

But I'm not going to spend $100 for shoes that will be worn 8 hours a week for half a year. Confused

This applies to shoes that they wear every day. Wearing cheap shabbos shoes for afew hours a week won't damage their feet.

Thanks everyone.
I agree, school/weekday shoes need to be fit properly with support, etc.
Shabbos shoes that are hardly worn for a few hours really don't matter.
