How do you help your Bais yaakov Dd with chumash homework? I need to understand the rashi but I’m stumbling with the Aramaic words. I speak fluent Hebrew but the Aramaic is a problem.

We are bt. I’m fluent in Hebrew. How do you help Dd? Do you learn Aramaic in Bais yaakov?

No, you don't officially learn aramaic in BY, but you pick a tiny bit up, especially if you go to certain seminaries.

Are you sure it's aramaic and not old french?

Are you israeli BT? Lucky for the fluent hebrew!!

Still offering to help. Post the pesukim!
Offer lasts for a little longer, till I goto bed Wink

Yes I’m an Israeli bt. It’s rashi how could it be old french? Does Dh helps with homework or you do it? Idk why I need to help with the rashi. Dd is a smart girl. Why doesn’t she know it. It feel likes she sees these rashis the first time.

Rashi was French and often gave French translations in his commentary. Does it say בלע"ז and then something unpronounceable?

Just buy the blue Hebrew English Chumash or the artscroll. Should not be such a big deal to read rashi. You don’t need to know Aramaic or French.
It should be enjoyable to learn the parsha with rashi. If you need help, just buy the translated Sefer.

Because Rashi (who lived in France) will sometimes use old French to explain why a word or concept is translated as such - I think any time he wrote בלע"ז - בלשון עם זר - it refers to old french.

It may be worthwhile to acquire the Artscroll Rashi, though.

ETA: what Aylat said. Smile

I’ve been wanting to get the Artscroll Rashi. It probably would be just right for you and DD I’m guessing.

The artscroll rashi is NOT blue.
It's brown. Maybe reddish brown.
Each of the chamishei chumshei torah is its own volume. Unless they've changed something in the past two decades

Blue artscroll dues not translate rashi

No. She is an excellent student. She did mention that she doesn’t listen at class though. Idk exactly what is the problem. When you do rashi hw with you kids do they know the rashi mostly?

If you go online, Sefaria has a translation of Rashi (and other mefarshim).

To answer your question op...By junior hs my girls have been able to do Rashi hw on their own. If they need help, they would look in the Hebrew English translation.
By hs they really move on to many more meforshim. Rashi is the first level.
