You can call Nesivos. They should be able to guide you.

I have a preteen with borderline ODD and what keeps me sane is having two weekly appointments - one with a therapist for me and one a therapist for her.

Anger isn’t spontaneous combustion. It’s a symptom of either

A disorder/lack of skills that means my kid can’t handle something snd we need to teach her that missing skill (Dr Ross Greene book on explosive children is a lifesaver)

A reaction over an emotional need lack or concern

And so on. Therapy helps us deal, helps us learn, and helps us identify why there’s anger ans where it’s coming from and what we need to address to learn new ways of coping with the causal force that’s behind that anger

(-From a mom who did NOT handle said preteens anger issues well AT ALL this YT because of other family issues but is trying!!!)

Thank you for writing this, it is SO important!

I think that most anger management fails, because it deals with the immediate things like "Don't hit, count to ten, take deep breaths..." and yet it often never gets deep enough to figure out WHY the person is angry, hurt, and sad.

If you never heal the hurt, then all the behavior management in the world is just a bandaid on a gaping wound.
