Hi, would love for some advice from Manchester ladies! BeH we will be coming from Israel to Manchester for the coming year and my knowledge of the schools is a decade out of date. In Israel we're dati leumi Torani, which isn't yeshivish but also isn't UK Modern Orthodox, so if I say what we're looking for, can anyone advise? I'm posting under my screenname so if there's info we should have leto'eles, but that might be lashon hara otherwise, I would welcome a pm. As you can tell from the title we're looking for boys' primary and secondary schools. TIA for your help!

Academically:
1) High levels of both limudei kodesh and chol.
2) Good with meeting individual needs such as ADHD (especially relevant to the secondary school).
3) Experience with Israelis eg on shlichut is a plus. Our kids all speak fluent English, and all read and write English, some on grade-level, some below. Most of them would need some individual adjustments to English lessons. On the other hand, our kids are probably ahead of UK grade level in limudei kodesh - I'd love it if they had teachers who would play to their strengths, so to speak, and give positive encouragement to improve the things they are behind in. (I'd love to hear about fantastic teachers in any of the places, maybe by pm. IME it has mostly been individual teachers more than a school that has impacted my children.)

Hashkafically/culturally:
4) Families who only have filtered internet at home and who believe in limiting screentime. (Our children do have screentime, mainly Minecraft lol so if most families don't have a computer that probably wouldn't be a good fit).
5) Secular media exposure - our children read secular books and occasionally watch films on the computer - both only pre-approved by us. They don't listen to secular music and are not 'fans' of pop idols or actors etc. Again, it would make sense for them to fit in with their classmates.
6) Smartphone use by kids - our kids don't get smartphones until mid-teens, and then only get a filtered smartphone. Even then it's on an at-need basis, eg travelling every day and use transport apps etc. I know in some circles kids as young as 10 have smartphones, we definitely don't want a primary school where that is common. And would prefer a secondary school where it is rare too, at least in the younger years, and/or the school rules require that kids who have smartphones have filtered internet/limited apps. OTOH both DH and I have smartphones, so a school that bans smartphone use by parents wouldn't be a good fit.
7) Our kids go to separate gender schools from Year 1 and don't socialise with the opposite gender. Youth groups etc are completely separate. (I know Broughton Jewish is mixed, I'm wondering how much socialising out of school there is between boys and girls and which youth groups the pupils from each school go to.)

Okay, I think that's long enough for the moment ;-) Thank you for any advice, I'm feeling lost.

My boys don't go to these schools but it sounds to me like Broughton Jewish for primary and Jewish grammar for high school would be a suitable fit for your family from your in depth description.
My nieces and nephew went/go to Broughton jewish and they don't mix with the opposite gender.
I hope that helped.

Broughton Jewish sounds like a good fit. Hashkafically Jewish day is more to the right but has a large range so you could fit well there as well.
In JD/YH almost all the kids have technology and play Minecraft etc but mothers fully cover hair, most fathers wear hats. In Broughton Jewish that is not the case.
The headmaster of Broughton Jewish worked in Jewish day when I went there and he is really great. Both schools are used to handling children with ADHD and there are many services in the community.
Both schools have a lot of Israelis which should help with the transition.

I send to Jewish day, yesodai HaTorah which may also be a good fit as a primary school like one of the above posters said.
It's quite hard to get into though as they're a huge school. And then from Jewish day, to Jewish grammar for high school.

Thanks! Do you happen to know which youth groups the kids from BJ and YH go to?

I'm interested that you said BJ and then JG, do a number of BJ kids go onto JG?

I forgot to ask that actually - is YH a private school or state-funded? (I think it used to be private?)

Yavne too left-wing in what way?
Do you know what youth groups the Yavne boys go to?

Is there a clash between sending to different schools? Eg if primary school kids are in BJ, would JG accept their older brothers? What about YH if older brothers are in Yavne?
Also (though we're not planning on doing that) what if DS1 went to Yavne, would DS2 be able to be accepted to JG?

BH we're coming from a place where siblings can go to completely different style of schools, depending on what's appropriate for each child, but I know not everywhere is like that.

I fully cover my hair but my DH does not wear a hat and does wear jeans, and light-coloured trousers for Shabbat. Is that a no for YH?

Re the bolded - that's really good to hear bH. Amen!

Boys do go from BJ to JG. About one quarter of the year in JG come from BJ.
The boys in BJ and yavne go to Ezra and BA , in JG could be a few boys go to Ezra but mostly not.
Re: mixing schools and siblings. BJ and yavne wouldn’t have a problem with it. JD would probably think if a sibling is in yavne then the family is not quite right for JD.
Hope that helps!!

YH is an academy.
From what you have said BJ is probably a better fit than JD. It is a lovely , warm and friendly school.

Yes, I think most boys from BJ go to JG. Maybe it's half and half, I'm not sure. The rest usually go to Yavneh.

It's state funded and been like that for many years now. When I was there it was private Smile

Broughton Jewish sounds a better fit for you, for sure. I don't think YH would be so accepting of jeans and light coloured trousers on shabbos.

Thanks Fab4!

So I guess we're applying to BJ then Smile

What about Yavne/JG? Are JG ok with jeans?
Do any of you have boys in Yavne or JG - I have a few more specific qs.
