I learned this exact same song as a kid! What odd lyrics!!

Ohh when I grow up
No matter what life brings
Hashem should give me the strength
I need to handle things

I think this verse is very nice it’s what comes next that’s so strange!!!

I will walk by the lights
Of 1,000 Friday nights
And the tefillos of my mother
Who always had her candles lit

1. One thousand fri nights?? Huh? Over the span of 20 years? What is this referring to? Why not six thousand- this way it’s till 120 at least LOL
Or is it referring to a thousand homes? That’s depressing to be walking so much on a Friday night ..?

2. Her mother always had her candles lit. Is that referring to sun-Friday? Or did she always have her candles lit on Shabbos? If so what’s the significance? Don’t we all light our candles on shabbos? I mean we’re dealing with a pretty Yeshivish class here ...

It’s talking about the power of her mother’s tefilos, who always davened for her while bentching licht Friday night.

Nice sentiments. Don't over analyse the details. How old is she, anyway?

Yup, I was singing this song at least 25 years ago.

I 😂 though because I never look like the Shabbos Queen when Shabbos comes in... there’s no quiet tearful davening... it’s chaos and I make it through the Yehi Ratzon on a good week...

I assume the thousand Friday nights are poetic, and generally refer to the ~20 years a girl lives at home before starting to light her own. But yeah, it’s poetic and not literal at all.

When I was an obnoxious and nitpicky kid, I picked on the “behind her covered face” line. Because would that mean the mother is whispering from the *back* of her head? Lol, kids think they’re soooo clever

Love this song. But I hear you about the thousand so I changed it from thousand Friday nights to countless Friday nights

It says a thousand friday nights because in our childhood we have approximately a thousand friday nights.

1. Never did the math, but maybe it’s the 1000 Friday nights of her childhood till she got married with a home of her own?

2. You’re being too literal. She always had them lit when they were supposed to be lit - Friday nights.

It's "I Used to Think My Mother Was the Shabbos Queen"

Here are the lyrics, though I don't recognize some of them. I bolded the popularly sung ones:

SHABBOS QUEEN- Composed by Yocheved Reich (Sorcher)- Yanky & Shabbos

I used to think my mother was the Shabbos Queen
She stands so regally with royal grace
And whispers to the King of the Universe, Hashem
From a very special place, behind her covered face.

I know that she’s not asking Him for diamonds
My noble mother doesn’t ask for gold
She’s asking Him to help me study all the Torah’s ways
And to let her eyes behold the joy as she grows old.

CHORUS:
Oh oh, and when I grow up
No matter what life brings
Hashem will give me the strength I need to handle it
And I will walk by the lights
Of a thousand Friday nights
And the Tefillos of my mother, who always had her candles lit.

My mother turns our house into a palace
Her wisdom and her warmth both make it so
She bentches licht and I can hear her tender feelings speak
Without any voice or words but the kiss on my cheek.

The Shabbos candles’ light is gentle and so soft
It smoothes away her forehead’s every crease
And suddenly the troubles of the past week disappear
All her fears and worries cease in this moment of peace.

CHORUS:
Oh oh, and when I grow up
No matter what life brings
Hashem will give me the strength I need to handle it
And I will walk by the lights
Of a thousand Friday nights
And the Tefillos of my mother, who always had her candles lit.

I think of how it hurts my mother when I’m doing wrong
When I do not let my good side show
But this week I’ve decided I will make my mother proud
Because how else will she know that I love her so?

Each mitzvah that I do will be a diamond
Each smile I give will be a precious stone
To put into the crown she seems to wear on Friday night
And when I am fully grown, I’ll wear a crown of my own.

CHORUS:
Oh oh, and when I grow up
No matter what life brings
Hashem will give me the strength I need to handle it
And I will walk by the lights
Of a thousand Friday nights
And the Tefillos of my mother, who always had her candles lit.

I love this song! I cry every time my 5yo sings it, even though she has no idea what the words mean and says the line "she stands so wiggly with royal grace" 😂

1000 Fridays nights = amount of Friday nights a person experiences by age 18-20, which I assume is considered "grown up."
Yeshivish people also need meaning in their life. Lighting candles is an eis ratzon and one of a woman's three special mitzvos. Ffb or BT, it's special to Hashem and mothers all over should take advantage and daven.
Hashem values every mitzvah, even if it's one that everyone does!
