It bothers me so much!! I mean, I'm no professional, but people mess up words or phrases that seem so elementary:
Should of
Could of
Would of
Expecially (in pronunciation, instead of saying especially)
Supposebly
Can't Believe It Can't Believe It Can't Believe It

As an editor, I spend my days cleaning up these messes.

My current pet peeves are a: using that instead of who, and b: people who misspell ridiculous.

It's would HAVE, could HAVE, should HAVE, which is elided into would've, could've, should've when it's not woulda, coulda, shoulda. People who don't read much and therefore only HEAR would've could've should've interpret it as would OF could OF should OF.

Those are two of my biggest pet peeves too, along with using “less” instead of “fewer,” and “I” when they should say “me.”

I also hate when you ask people how they are and they say “Good.”

My 4th grade teacher gave us a spelling list to study one week. I will never forget the first two words:

1. A
2. Lot

She told us it was to remember that it is TWO words. I have never forgotten!
