I'd like to opt out of getting the monthly IRS payments that are an advance on 2021 tax refunds. I went to the IRS website and it looks like you can opt it, but it's a convoluted process. I wonder if it even works, or if it takes months for the request to be processed and the payments to be stopped.

Has anybody here done this, and did it work as you would have expected it to?

Thanks.

Process is a multi step - you need to set up an IRS account and go through the steps to opt out. I already had an account so it was pretty easy for me until I got to the final screen. Once you get to the opt out screen, it notifies you that if you filed a joint return last year, the other person on the return also needs to opt out. That’s when I stopped because I knew it would take a while for my husband to create an account (or for me to go through the steps to create one for him).
