My 3rd grader is really struggling academically in school im thinking she might have dyslexia.. she shows all signs of it.. I live in lakewood and would want to get her evaluated by a neuropsychologist where can I get such an evaluation? I tried speaking to the principal she said she will try to find out how to get her evaluated but unfortunately the school just opened a few years ago and they dont have all the resources needed at the moment. I also made an apt with her pediatrician to check her hearing and vision as well to make sure I dont miss anything.. if anyone can guide me and has been through same situation and knows how I can start by getting her evaluated and what they did afterwords to help thier child I would really appreciate it

Does she struggle with both Hebrew and English reading?

Checking hearing and vision is very important. Don't check the vision by the Dr at the eye glasses store. That's a more basic exam to see the prescription. Go to a proper doctors office to get a full exam.

I would go for a developmental exam with a VTOD. In lkwd theres dr Harvey Richman and dr Leonard press

Call your local public school and ask to speak with the special education department for evaluation.

I can help you figure out where to go/what to do.
Tell me what school you’re in and I’ll give u some info.
You don’t have to run to a neuropsychologist yet.

Many university campuses have these neuropsych educational evaluations done on more affordable sliding scale fees by grad students under supervision of staff.

Whether there or your local recommended private evaluator, the wait time for appointments is usually not too short. So get on a waiting list.

There is a test called the CTOPP which picks up dyslexia well that is not usually part of a standard eval but an add on if they have it on the side. You need to ask what test they do, if they can specifically dx dyslexia. Not all evaluators do or will dx it. Some will only say unspecified LD.

It is good to check hearing & vision for sure.

Tutoring is the answer. Reading is taught with methods that work with dyslexia. The standard in schools is not compatible.

You don't need to call the public school for an eval. Your school should be able to set it up through ontrack. Sounds like aside for vision you may need to consult a reading specialist
