If you lived in Bklyn, I would tell you to go to Saposh... They are by far the greatest fitters and specialize in the hard to fit customers... I would say to go to Macy's perhaps, and see if there is a fitting specialist on the floor.... Otherwise...sports bras it shall stay until.....

it wasn't really so nice, actually. I only clicked on the title because I thought it was a real trap, and when I realized it was about untznius things, I was sorry I clicked.

If she is uncomfortable having a stranger measure her, would she let you...or you could explain the process and she could do it herself.
I would still go to a quality store to buy the bra. IMO cheap bras don't fit as well, are therefore likely to be uncomfortable and often fall apart quite easily. I saved so much more money with my teenage daughter when I switched to "expensive" bras.

I don't think the amother thought bras are untznius I think she refered to the language being used.

It really wasn't a very refined way to name the topic

I don't like taking my teenage daughter bra-shopping because most of the bras ARE totally untznius - either blatantly s*xy or PADDED like crazy so they have a life of their own.......

It's really hard to find just plain-jane bras for teens. I know my daughter's size because I measured her at home (it's easy) and I bring home things for her to try in private. The bras I choose are simple, comfortable, nice, but not "grown-up" or "molded."

Really, when I see all those padded pairs standing up on those displays.... I have to wonder when I see women/girls on the street.... aren't they all just padded, padded, padded? Is all that "enhancement" a good thing - especially for teens?

To the last Amother, I know what you mean about too s#xy or overly padded. I'm also having a hard time finding the right bra for my teen. She needs a lot of width but a small cup.

I do find some padding actually MORE tzanua, it's helpful in providing a smooth shape and minimizing the noticable 'budding'. Some teen bras have circular pad inserts (like small nursing breast pads) and are all-cotton, which is a good thing.

And Greenfire, LOL to what I can only guess was the original thread title!

BTW~ Proper sizing is really important!! I was wearing the wrong size for years, and when I was finally properly fitted and bought better jobs, a lot of friends asked if I'd lost weight! Wink

I had no problem finding very plain (I'm not going to say tznius because I personally think it's a bit of an oxymoron given the context) bras when I took my daughters shopping this past summer. We went to one of the outlet malls and hit the Hanes, Maidenform, Bali etc outlet stores and I bought them very nice, yet plain bras.

I measured them before we got to the store (through their shirts) and once we were there, I made sure the bras all fit. I waited until they had put one on, I slipped into the dressing room, I made sure they knew how to properly adjust themselves into the cups and that things weren't too tight or too loose.

Both my girls are fairly well endowed and it is vital they have proper fitting bras to prevent back and shoulder problems.

I have problems to find bras even for ME! Between the bubby, the baby, the trashy, the ugly, the nice-but-doesn't-have-my-size... Generally it's extra expensive (150 dollars or so) or on ebay...

I remember bra shopping with my mother...I was mortified! To me, it was the most embarrassing experience. My mother had the sales lady measure me and, at the time, I just wanted to curl up in the corner and blend into the wall. Be mindful of your daughter's level of personal comfort!

All my pre-teen/teen bras were from Sears. It's easy to find non-padded and conservative in style (plain white or black). Remember, AA is smaller than A. It's a nice way of introducing her to the bra world without having to wear sports bras (which I always found to be uncomfortable).

Padded bras aren't necessarily immodest. I wear them so that nothing shows through...not for enhancement purposes.
