I hate my wood-painted cabinets. You turn around and they're chipped. They get scraped so easily. A chair bumps in and you have a scratch... If I would do wood, it would be stained. (I didn't choose these cabinets, I moved into a done house.) I don't know about repairing acrylic, but they really don't get banged up easily.

Yes!! I'm doing a wood look in a laminate. I feel I'm getting the best of both, the warmth of wood with the practicality of laminate.
