I recently splurged and went for a real expensive one (according to my budget) How do I wash it I shouldn't ruin it?

Good for you!
hand wash it in the sink with mild shampoo or detergent or soap made for delicates
hang to dry

By hand in cool water (not ice cold, it's ok to add a bit of hot water to take the chill off) with dishwashing liquid, shampoo, or a hand-laundry product. Regular soap like Ivory is also fine but IME it doesn't lather well in cold water. Rinse thoroughly and, if you like, add a bit of white vinegar to the final rinse to dissolve any detergent or soap residue. Drip-dry away from heat. To cut drying time, you can roll it in a towel to extract excess water and then hang.
