Im a bit confused when I see diff. posters use the word high as a term for intoxicated.
High= on medication/weed
drunk: on alcohol

In mainstream circles high is used to reference drugs, drunk for alcohol. But I think in some frum circles high is used like the word buzzed?

High means drugs-weed/cocaine/meth….
Unfortunately the smoking of weed is too prevalent in some communities

High: any drug, including weed, opium, MDMA, alcohol, cocaine, etc.
Drunk: specific to alcohol
Stoned: specific to weed
Wired: specific to uppers

I don't know the official meaning, but it's definitely used in frum circles all the time in reference to alcohol. As in not quite drunk, but drank enough to be tipsy

My husband gets high on alcohol. Its different than tipsy at least in my opinion. It's a more positive reaction to alcohol. Most of the men at our Seuda drank alot and were talking non stop Divrei Torah. It was really nice to see.

When someone drank just enough to seem "on a high" but not totally drunk, people call it being "high". They still sound logical, can walk straight but have that "loud" voice and "cheerful" way of talking.
I call it "freilech" with a sarcastic undertone.

I've also only heard high in reference to drunk on this site.
Words my husband uses for drunk - tipsy, wasted, trashed, shlostered, plastered
