Hello friends!

In a few weeks we will be making a kiddush for my 9 month old daughter. Our family doesn't live locally, so we'll be putting up lots of people for shabbos and hosting them for shabbos meals.

Help me plan this shindig!

First, tablecloth and centerpiece gamachs in Lakewood. If you know of a good gamach, I'd love their contact info!

Next, let's plan the menu.

The kiddush itself is going to be simple: cake, cookies, candy, salads, maybe kugal and chulant, all homemade.

I'd love to get advice on a simcha-worthy Friday night and shabbos lunch menu that's not too difficult to execute for a crowd.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Friday night:

Challah rolls, chummus, matbucha, babaganush

Gafilta fish

Chicken soup with noodles and matzo balls

Hop poppers, London broil with soy-maple sauce, grilled veggies, potato kugal, rice

Chocolate mousse cake for dessert

Shabbos day:

This will be after the kiddush, I'm kinda thinking that no one's gonna be too hungry at that point, but I need to serve a meal anyway.

Challah and dips, pickles, cold slaw

Schnitzel, cold cuts, Franks n blanks, kugal, chulant, leafy green salad

Peanut chews and rice crispy treats for dessert (a family tradition!)

Advice? Critiques? Suggestions? All welcome!

Sounds lovely. If you are serving cholent and kugel at the kiddush I think I would just have lunch be really light ( and tell people that in advance) and then serve a more substantial seudah shlishit.

It sounds great!

At the day meal I'd make the leafy salad into a large variety of salads or into a salad bar.

Mazel Tov and enjoy every minute!!

For shalosh seudos, serve rolls, guacamole, deviled eggs, tuna salad, whitefish salad, pasta salad, corn salad, leafy salad, cut fruit.

If you make the kiddush at 11, when are you serving lunch? I'd wait til 1:00 or 1:30 on such a long shabbos day.

Your menu sounds great!

Thanks for support and suggestions!

I totally forgot about seudah shelishis! Definitely need it, the day is really long.

So easy. Mix 1/2 c maple syrup, 1/2 c soy sauce, pour over London broil. I marinade it for a few hours if I have time. Bake at 450 for 15-20 minutes each side, slice very thin, rewarm with indirect heat (we put it on the chulant pot) so it doesn't dry out.
