Hi - I was thinking of moving to Jackson or Toms River. Anyone here who recently moved (in past 1-3 years…) can plz share their experience ASAP!??
Also how is it with settled frum schools???
Would love to get as much info as possible ASAP please!!thanks!! I have a 10 year old girl & a 9 year old & 3 year old boy.
Would need a solid really good school for them . That’s really frum but preferably allows filtered smartphones…

I send to middle of the road schools. We can have smart phones. We sign that our kids don't have access to unfiltered internet but they aren't too concerned about the parents. School here is difficult to get into. You need to try applying to a bunch and see who has room for your ages and is willing to give you an interview. If you have pull in any specific school that can help as well.

Even if you move to Jackson or Tom's River, you're moving to Lakewood. The schools are in Lakewood, the stores, the mikva.
Things are changing and expanding, but slowly.

Depends on where you're coming from, be prepared for things to be different. A lot more driving and shuttling, very minimal public transportation, very few sidewalks. Garbage pickup, snow removal all are different systems.

Really research and run the numbers. Houses my be cheaper than other places but heating, lawn, cost of car or second car can add up.

I'm not trying to discourage you from moving. But you need to have your eyes open.

Are you looking for this coming school year or the next?

Besides internet stuff, what else can identify you?
Does your husband wear a black hat during the week? Just on Shabbos? Never?
Colored shirt or white shirt?
Do you wear tights/stockings? Knee socks? Nothing?
Do your kids watch nothing? Only Jewish content? Secular kiddy stuff? Whatever they want?

Do your kids have any needs in school? Help?
Do they come from large schools or small schools? Yiddish or English speaking?

All schools start with primary (grade before 1st). Some schools have kindergartens also. Virtually no school has a nursery btw.

My sons go to beis dovid… my husband wears a shtreimel shabbes and a hat weekday… I wear tights . I don’t really let my kids watch - sometimes Yiddish stuff e.t.c …. My daughter also goes to a very settled stable school … they are Bh doing well . I have a filtered smartphone … we are looking for a neatral / frum school where I’ll be allowed to drive & preferably have a smartphone - but also a solid school - with nice families..

What are these two schools like?
And any similar boys schools?
Also would they allow smartphones?

I would advise you first try to get your kids into school.
It is extremely difficult & many schools won't take new kids because classes are already overflowing.

I see your daughter is 10 , that's prob. The oldest grade in bais hachinuch.

What school do you send to now?

Every school allows smart phones.
But it should be filtered..

Housing and taxes are expensive here with prices rising and schools are hard to get into. A kid can miss a whole grade waiting to get into school. Decide if you are really desperate to uproot your kids for that before you come. Busing to Toms River and Jackson change by the school by the year and is not assured. Bnos Penina is neutral chassidish that teaches in English and allows filtered smart phones.
