How can I store an esrog so that it will maintain its freshness for the weeks until Succos?

I've heard suggestions of keeping it airtight with absorbent material. Does that work? Any other proven methods?

It's just under two months until Sukkot. I didn't think etrogim were ripe yet, but assuming you have found a perfect one, the best way might just be to put it at the back of the fridge. I've kept other kinds of citrus in good condition for a long time that way. You would need to put it in some kind of container to protect it from bumps, but I don't know if it needs to be air tight or not.

Thanks for your input.
I'm concerned it will get frozen in the back of the fridge. Maybe just in a cool room.

Anyone with suggestions about whether it should be airtight?

At this point most of the esrogim we get in America were cut off the trees but they are still a dark green.
Put it in a vegetable bag -if there’s a pittum cut out a while for it. And then put it in a box with sponges all around to protect it. Store it in a cool room I wouldn’t put it in a fridge.
Check in two weeks or so to see how the color is doing. You want to make sure it gets yellow. Do not place it in a bag of apples. That will very likely make ur esrog possul (the ukutz falls off) putting it in a paper bag is one of the ways.

What Periwinkle said is all right . My husband's family is in the business keep in a bag and in a dry cool place till rosh Hashanah, check it then if it is not yellow( which I doubt ) then take out it out of the bag and wrap with paper towel.
