Do you dress casual for these events or formal? There is a required amount you had to give to reserve your seats.

Ask the hostess, and ask her for specifics. My machatenesteh told me that she was dressing casually for our children's lechayim, in a sweater and skirt. She didn't tell me that it would be a silk sweater and satin skirt shot through with gold thread and embellished with four pounds of gold sequins and beads.
