What would you do if you were in a parking lot and you accidently scratched your car with another parked vehicle while backing out. Would you wait in the parking lot until you saw the owner?
Would you just drive away? Would you go into the mall and ask them to announce the owner of that license plate number to go to the parking lot. Has this ever happened to any one before? what should be done according to halacha or the law? Is it assur to just drive off?

If you want to know halachically, you should ask a Rav.
My best guess is that its good to leave the person a note. Explain what happened, apololgize for the mistake, and leave your phone number. If you have a cell phone camera, take pics in case you need it for insurance purposes or as legal evidence.

Yes. It happened once to me. I swiped someone's mirror off their door. My luck, it was a heated mirror. I left a note under the windshieldwiper with an explanation & my phone #. We worked it out in a very mentchlich way. People appreciate honesty.
