Very basic? One of R' Telushkin's books (especially Jewish Literacy) or R' Hayim Donin's To Be a Jew. Both very clear and accessible.

Any other suggestions? I would prefer a Jewish Publishing company if possible. Does anyone have an opinion on Gateway to Judaism?
Thanks!!

For a little more conceptual, deeper thoughts on the basics of Judaism, I like R' Akiva Tatz's Teenager's Guide to Life (which is equally great for adults!)

Why would the publishing company matter? Bear in mind that books published with a frum audience or a particular kiruv slant are often didactic and can turn people off. Buyer beware.
