I personally know of a family who had signed up to Areivim years ago, they gave the suggested amount due every time there was a death situation.
Unfortunately their father (of 10) passed away.
Arriving gave them nothing, claiming that the father had a preexisting condition and this disqualified them from receiving funds!!!
Without notifying the family all those years while they paid...
In this case where Areivim decided to disqualify the family, They should've given notice upon signing up, not after the father's death.

I don't know what areivim is all about, I'm just seeing it here. Please make sure all the details are correct. It's terrible to slander tzadakah organizations if it's not all accurate.

I'm not saying you're making it up or that it's not true, just please be sure before making accusations.

I've also heard stories where they didn't pay out for whatever reason. So definitely get life insurance if you want to be guaranteed that your kids will get what you feel is necessary in case of a tragedy ch"v.
It's nice to join if you feel like giving tzeddaka but it's not life insurance.
We were part of it for a few years but then stopped.

Also double check with them, I'm not sure they pay out if you have life insurance. Initially when we joined they said they do but later we heard they don't.

I don't know how the plan in America works, but here if the parent had life insurance that exceeds what they give, they won't give.
It's the way they manage to keep it tzadaka money that can come out of ma'aser. They can't ask people to give 'tzedaka' for someone who is anyway getting a fat check from insurance.
Same if you have lots of money from other places- if you own another apartment for example.
It's written when you sign up.
