Why don't they do bloodwork at dr offices in Lakewood? Labcorp could not get a vein on my poor 4 year old... so we told him to stop. Where I'm from originally, this is done in the pediatrician's office with skilled technicians who are experienced with kids. I think I'm going to try going to kimball. Does anyone have any other recommendations or agrees with me that this is an issue? It's traumatic for the kids.

I don't know where you're from originally, but many insurances don't cover labs in a doctors office, which is why they don't do it there. You have to go to a lab or hospital. Your insurance may have been different in your hometown.

I have a niece who was born preemie, and has very small veins. I'm pretty sure my sister takes her to Monmouth hospital for bloodwork, because of the issues you mention.

Not Lakewood specific but my kids pediatrician only just in the past couple of years added a lab to their office, Before that I always took my kids to a hospital for blood work preferably one that sees a lot of kids like a children's hospital. But I find that they tend to be better trained to take blood from kids then a place like labcorp or quest.

Yes I find this super annoying . In Brooklyn my standard insurance covered blood work done at my pediatricians office ! Going elsewhere for
basic bloodwork seems so weird , and definitely annoying

Do you mean regular routine bloodwork? I’ve always had that done in dr Gittleman’s office. They send it to either labcorp or quest depending on insurance.

In chemed you can go to lab straight from appointment.
I dk why it would make a difference. It still depends on the skills of the phlebotomist on duty.
Which labcorp did you go to?
I've had good experience on 2nd st.

Yes it’s very annoying. I have found that the labcorp on River ave to be the best at being gentle and being successful in finding a vein in little kids. Had a terrible experience on 2nd street

I'm not in Lakewood, but as a mother of kids with very difficult veins (and having difficult veins myself), I have found that doctors offices tend to be worse for bloodwork, since the nurses and techs don't do it as often and don't have as much experience. I prefer to go to a lab where the phlebotomists do it all day. It's not foolproof, but on a whole that's been my experience. Also make sure that your child is well hydrated before you do bloodwork, that can make a huge difference.

Yes but the lab they use my insurance doesn’t cover. And specialists sometimes want you to go only to labcorp

Every doctor office I have been to has a phlebotomist on staff the nurse does not draw blood. The best place I ever had blood taken was the hematologist/oncologist office. The woman takes blood so often from pretty sick people so she really knew how to make it as pain free as possible.
