Hi there! Calling all balabastas....
How can I take the unfresh smell out of my towels. I tried washing them so many different ways, and after one or two uses they don't smell pleasant anymore.
Anyone have a good solution for this?

Pour some ammonia in your towel wash
I know ammonia smells awful but it does the trick for getting out that “musty” towel smell
I personally don’t like to use bleach especially if your towels are colored…

Do you have a sanitary cycle that's extra hot and extra long?

I second vinegar. I add to every single cycle.

Every wash Minimum 60 degrees Celsius and long cycle.
Once in a while I do 90 degree C. cycle.
Anything less than 60C is a total no no.

Do they not get ruined? Most of my towels say to wash at 40, so I always wash them at 40, but I really would prefer to wash them hotter.

If your 100% cotton towels can't take a 60C. degree cycle there is seriously something wrong with them.
I always use detergent without bleaching agents for colored towels and bedding.

I get something called Downy Rinse and refresh. It'sliquid and really helps with towel odor.

How do they smell when you wash them?
Are they a bit mildewy because they were put in the hamper damp or stored very damp in a damp environment.
I've never had this problem with towels except occasionally when a kid left a wet towel in a heap and it was neglected for a long time so the towel developed an unpleasant mildew odor.

If I have to replace them every 4 years instead of keeping them longer, I am fine with that. They are breeding grounds for bacteria and I need them clean.
