What price range are you looking for? Kate spade and Ferragamo are not exactly in the same bracket. I agree with the posters that said its more about the style than the company. Maybe try to look for a wallet on a chain- smaller cross body. I have one I love and I have never seen teens wearing them.
I believe kate spade and coach both have simple black ones... and if you are looking to spend a bit more, there are designers who have them and they are cheaper than a standard bag...

Yes, Ferragami is over the budget
I wanted to spend under $200
How about Michael Kors? Is that more age appropriate?
Something like this?

MK is not considered a luxury brand.

IMHO- get her a classic bag, like a satchel that has a crossbody strap

And she would appreciate a matching wallet |
This makes me think of my great grandmother.
But I already said upthread that Coach has a serious vibe. Too serious for me.

I would stick with a classic leather that isn’t branded like a botkier

There are some cheaper Tory Burch bags. That seems more adulty.

It depends on how status conscious they are.
My friends who are quite well off, wouldn't think it beneath them to wear coach, kate spade, etc.
Yes high school and college age girls wear kate spade and marc jacobs (the snapshot is very popular and that runs in the $300+ range), but there's really no end to the spending, and people have to be confident enough at some point, to just get what they like and what works for them. Otherwise you'll need to spend a lot more money, if you want a designer bag.

I really appreciate all the honest feedback.
Still not sure what to get-
I know she wants a small black crossbody…
Any links are much appreciated!

No way.
I would say, grown up Coach models are much better than Michael Kors.
I looked at Coach. I like the bags called Tabby and Studio Baguette. They are very classic looking.

Try Dooney & Bourke and Cuyana. They both have great leather bags that are upscale but not terribly expensive.

I think 50 is over the age of a crossbody bag.

Look at the Pompom Mayfair. I’ve did using this bag for a while, and I am obsessed with it. I used to be a big purse lady in this bag actually fits everything I need. The best part is that it comes with a few different straps. So you get to pick the ones you like.

Who knew? I should just trade mine in for a granny cart!
Not that granny carts aren’t awesome. When I was newly married and didn’t have a stroller yet, we lived in a city and we all did our shopping with granny carts. At this point I have no idea how a real granny would be able to bend over the high sides and lift a heavy bag out🤷♀️

I'd look at Frame, Botkier, Cuyana and other similar quality but not cheesy branded bags.
