I’m thinking of doing a chair rail or wainscoting with a perhaps glossy white on the bottom (easily washable?)
What color should I do on top?
I have dark wood floors. Our home is classy and classic- not modern. Softer calmer shades of color, not bold blacks etc.

Personally I don't go for dark walls, but I wouldn't use white paint on the lower half. Every speck will show. Unless you want to spend your days cleaning the wainscoting, I would do exactly the reverse, dark below and light above.

Though TBH I wouldn't put in a chair rail at all. It's one more horizontal surface collecting dust. But you do you. Maybe you have hired help.

I have a chair rail with pale yellow at the bottom and white at the top. I'm ok with the white at the top but I'd love another color below. Ideas welcome.
