It tells us that it's never happened to this degree in this specific region. It doesn't tell us anything else.
Again, what exactly are you smugly projecting?

Sure, that's what they're trying to prove.

Yes I think it didn't hit New York as hard this time but places like Chicago got it bad I heard. It also was really bad in Toronto on Wednesday but BH getting a bit better.

Maybe the winds are blowing differently this time. I smelled it last night and today, but definitely not as strong as last time.

Everything unprecedented is evil? Automatically?
Fires happen every summer- in Australia, in California, in Florida….I don’t think they usually happen in Canada, but I’m not sure. Growing up, we had plenty of days when we were better off indoors. It may be unprecedented in this region, but it’s not totally unprecedented.

A couple years ago - maybe 2 ? There was a fire in the state of Washington. A couple days later the smoke was seen here in New York. The media just didn’t hype it up. I was out with family at a picnic and there was obvious smog like today.

Because it's a conspiracy theory. And I find it hilarious that people are lapping it up without thinking critically and researching. Fires happen every summer. Yes, in Canada too. Nobody cares and it rarely makes the news unless it affects NY. The likelihood that most of the fires were started by arsonists backed by the government? Not likely.
But again, you possibly believe in aliens and that the moon landings never happened...

It tells us that parts of Canada had a dryer winter this year. No need to jump to the government deliberately setting fires Can't Believe It

If you can't even have a conversation about what your conspiracy theory is and try to explain to others than you clearly don't understand it yourself. You guys are all about how people should think for themselves but you're not thinking at all.

Wildfires are part of a natural cycle of wildlife. After years of fire protection being zero tolerance towards fire mitigation, there were a lot of fires prevented bh, but also there is a lot more live material to burn when fires occur. As a result, the fires are bigger and hotter. This means they burn materials that in previous fires (which were a lower temperature) would not have burned. This also means that the increased convection pushes smoke up higher into the sky. As a result, the smoke can spread farther distances. While fire protection philosophy has modulated in more recent years, the impact of the more extreme zero tolerance to wildfires approach (more material that can burn) still hasn't found a new equilibrium yet.

This coupled with dryer than normal conditions this year and weather patterns being what they've occasionally been this year has presented to many of us something to be conscious of that we rarely if ever have been conscious of before. I can't say it's NEVER happened before, but certainly not like this in our lifetimes.
