If your son is in a yeshiva that has a rebbe for kindergarten. Do they have free play when they walk in? What toys do they have in the classroom? Do they Play with imaginative toys or just building toys?

In my son's school, yes. They have all typical building toys like magna tiles, lego, clicks, some larger toys, & bikes for everyone.

Nope. I can cry with you.
I kind of made peace with it... but I was so upset about it that dh went to vent about it in kollel... so I'll the guys knew I was upset about the arrangement.
They have lego, clicks etc on shelves and the rebbe brings down the toys at free play.
Are you in BP?

I think they play when they get there but I don’t actually know the schedule. They do have tons of toys available.

Reliaticaly speaking, what type of toys would you like to see added to free play (don't say something that could never happen)

Set up like the NYC head start classrooms recommends.
Reading corner
Kitchen corner with dress up for mommy/totty
Little wooden desks and chairs

My son's classroom has a reading corner, kitchen center, little wooden tables/chairs, large car garages with cars. They do centers every day with different activities and skills.
But I don't think that many toys are really necessary. They're in school for 5.5 hours. They play outside on the playground every day. They have enough free playtime at home.

Agree that not all toys are necessary, however, I wonder how many parents and educators think free play is not necessary to play with toys. I see kids playing at the playground from the moment the kids are let out of school past dusk maybe outdoor play isn't necessary?
should kids have only centers
Only freeplay-with building toys? Imagination imitating toys
Is outdoor play necessary?
Is floor puzzles necessary?
I see there are many opinions here

Mine doesn't take the kids to play outdoors.
I try to take my kids out often, every afternoon for an hour, but there is only so much I can do.
Bh, they are teaching skills like colors, shapes, numbers, cutting.
There is very little of others things, seasons, community helpers etc.
I try to teach as much as I can, my son sings the months in LK and English, sings abc's.
We read books together, but not often enough.

I think that more than basic building toy's (magnatiles, cliks, lego), some books, maybe some cars, aren't necessary. They shouldn't be having that much free play on such a short school day.

I'm not in the US, but our education is swinging more to open ended resources and less 'toys'. So thinking about different type of building blocks with some small people-that can be a garage, a mall, a swimming pool, a park, anything the child wants it to be. Toys that only can be played with one way, are more limiting for the imagination.
Outdoor play is totally necessary. A lot of children are better behaved outdoors and will explore much more and investigate more.

They have
Magnatiles
Clics
Mentchies
Big cars/trucks
Dress up toys (Totty, hatzala, a bunch of fire hats)
Bikes for all the kids
A play kitchen with supplies
Duplo lego
Games
Books , tons of them
They might have stuffed animals I’m not sure
Play doh as a special activity
They also do crafts weekly and in the summer they have pools and more outdoor toys
There’s more but that’s what I can think of now
