“Between our third and fourth sheva brachos we signed away our entire yerushah and chasunah money.”
“It took some time until the truth came out: Our money was gone, and there was nothing to do. The day I found out, I literally couldn’t get out of bed. I was devastated. The worst part is the guilt I feel about my bad decision and the resentment I feel toward the family member who steered us wrong. It’s been a very difficult hurdle and a real blow to our new and fragile marriage.”
The saddest part is people who had no idea what they were getting into. In the secular world there would be a prospectus, and multiple layers of safeguards that would likely prevent someone who barely knows how to write a check from signing away their life savings on a highly speculative leveraged investment.
