I keep seeing online how the weight loss is only 5-10 pounds for a year but my doctor insists it's not true and it helps a lot more.
He's pushing me a lot.
I have pcos and he believes this will Kickstart my weight loss.
He's a very respectful doctor who hears me out, etc, this is just the only thing bothering me

Because it really does help many women lose weight and get ovulation back on track.

I have PCOS I lost a bit of weight. But the best thing metformin did for me was get my cycles back on track, which in turn helped me become pregnant...

Thanks
I'm curious if you know. Does bleeding equal ovulation while on metformin ?
This I understand.
But he keeps pushing it specifically for the weight loss angle which confuses me

If you want to go the natural route you could try Berberine
He’s pushing the Weightloss because that talks to most women.

Worth trying. It gave me horrible stomach pain so I stopped.

To know if it’s working: you could do bloodwork (for fasting insulin and maybe other things too)

My goal is for my period to come back naturally. Which he says will happen when I lose weight. Which will be Kickstarted by metformin.
Yes I'm overwheight and would prefer to lose some of it, but I'm not so comfortable talking medicine to help that (I'm not sure if that's healthier than being overweight)

Did it help you lose more than 5-10 pounds in a year?

No. Bleeding means a period. Not necessaeuly ovulatuon. To know if you ate ovulating, you have to do bloodwotk and an ultrasound.

The main reason I lost about 20kg with metformin was because it made me feel nauseous and took away my appetite. Saying that though, I have taken it other times when not dieting and not lost any weight.
The slow release is much better on the stomach but isn't available in Israel for some reason 😕

I did ovulate with it but only on day 40 so if I wasn't tracking ovulation with ultra sounds it would have been easy to miss

There's more and more research coming out that weight gain/loss correlates with insulin resistance and spikes/crashes cause the cravings that make weight loss more difficult. Thus by controlling the blood sugar you should be able to lose weight if it's the insulin resistance that is causing the lack of weight loss.

Not specifically looking to get pregnant right now.
In fact my doctor thinks it wouldn't be healthy at my weight which is why I'm surprised he's giving me metformin
