I was told to cut off the tops and hold each one under running water.

It boggles my mind how some of my relatives won’t eat berries, corn on the cob, celery, grapes… (due to potential bugs)

Why would it boggle your mind?
Corn on the cob, cauliflower, spinach, and certain berries are impossible to check properly according to many Rabbonim who are proficient in these matters.
Grapes? Are you sure?

It is my understanding of the Star K that you wash first and then cut off the tops. The order of these steps do matter.

Strawberries we wash and check properly. Raspberries, we were told are almost impossible to check so we don't eat them. Celery we peel, grapes I never heard are problematic.
Corn on the cob I recently heard may be infested and hard to check.

Interesting, we were told to cut the tops first as there may be more bugs in that area.

What's with corn on the cob?
Is there a way to check them?

Frozen bodek types I eat whole.

When I see my friends or people on insta using blackberries or raspberries I cry for them. They are known to have bugs

Yep. My FIL along with some rabbanim did an experiment where they tried washing, cutting, a whole bunch of other things to strawberries and in all of their experiments there were still bugs after. So they came out with the conclusion that the only way to get rid of them is to freeze them

I think crc says the opposite. Cut then wash.

Btw, both star knand crc say that the strawberries should be wahsed and rinsed twice.
