Thinking of naming my baby Aliza and calling her Liz as a nickname. Planning to send her to a standard school in Lakewood. Is the nickname too modern?

Yes and I'm not even from Lakewood. It's not modern - it's non Jewish

People will likely assume her name is not Jewish. Liz is a not Jewish name.

I grew up in a very modern orthodox place (co-Ed modern orthodox school) and there was 1 girl named Elizabeth with the nickname Liz of Lizzy.

I know two of them--both modern orthodox. If you love the nickname, why shouldn't you use it? I disagree that it isn't a Jewish name. Maybe you'll start a trend.

Out of curiosity, what makes something a Jewish name to you?

I’m from Lakewood.
No, you cannot use this non Jewish name here.
If you don’t like Aliza, choose something else.

I know someone from Lakewood Aliza and her friends call her Liz. If you and your husband like it you can definitely call her that. I would register her to school as Aliza etc but her friends and fam will call her Liz. Go for it. You do u!

I know a couple women who go by the name Liz. Both are from out of town.
Both have amazing families, and are amazing women.
Maybe in school she can be called Aliza, or Lizzie. At home call her Liz.
