I know it's probably both. But do you think it's more nature or more nurture?

Nature/biology
Can look like nurture because its heritable.

I guess I wonder if I - who has always been a very low energy person- can ever become a higher energy person.

Figure out what’s causing your low energy and address it

Nature. Why do I say this? Because you can have parents one way and kids another way, or some sibs one way and some another way. If it were nurture you'd expect kids to be the same as parents and sibs to be same as each other.

Judging by my daughter's personality I'm gonna say nature. She's been super active and high energy since day one.

I don't think you can drastically change from a low to high energy person, but could be you are deficient in something

I think it's half and half.

Nature can look like nurture, but nurture can also look like nature. We often don't notice all the little habits that add up to big differences in things like intelligence, strength, sociability, etc.

Eg naturally energetic people move around a lot, which builds muscle, which makes it easier to move more. They also tend to pursue more friendships and interests, which gives them more incentive to keep moving and doing things.

I do think there's a certain amount of inborn nature involved, but put it this way, I'd suggest anyone who considers themselves low-energy spend a few months following 'high-energy habits' and make sure it doesn't change things, before assuming it's all innate.

Which basically boils down to: first, make sure there's nothing standing in the way of being energetic (are you getting enough sleep at night? does anything in your diet make you feel sleepy (too much wheat or sugar can do this, for example)?). Second, get physically and mentally active. Third, get involved in stuff that inspires you to action.

FTR I'm defining 'high energy' as people who are active, and enjoy being active, while awake.

I'm not talking about the amount of sleep you need at night. That I think is 100% nature or close to it.

Do you mean physical energy or mental/social energy?

For example, physically I am fit and have more energy to chase the kids around, etc than most adults my age.

Mentally/socially, I consider myself low-energy because even though I am an extrovert and like talking to people, for some reason I am a slow paced thinker and talker, so I'm very rarely the "star of the show" even though I'd like to be.

Mentally/socially, I am about sure it is nature and not nurture.

If it is more about staying physically fit, having the energy to play tag with kids, etc, honestly I think that is more of a choice a person makes than nature or nurture, though both nature and nurture play a role.

I find that my emotional health affects my physical, I think by nature iam a high energy person but get quickly exhausted.

I am not sure if its cos I am too intense, or cos I was squashed and repressed alot during childhood, so the mental and emotional affect my energy...

can abuse affect a high energy person or would they be high energy regardless...

I relate..
Children are energetic so I believe adults should be too
There are many physical and emotional reasons that get in the way though
