Dear work from home moms,
Do you have a desk/station on your main floor or in your main room (where there's lots of traffic), or did you set yourself up in a quiter spot such as the basement or a room with less traffic?
Im having a dilemma: I often bring work home, some days I work from home and some days I go in. I found it most convenient to have a desk on my main floor, in my study, where I can drop off my work bag as soon as I come in, and its very convenient for me to grab it before I leave. However, being that its in an area where there's lots of traffic I often find myself missing some privacy. The kids, and their friends...etc. leaving me uncomfortable. There is no other space on the main floor. If I move myself down to the basement I find it inconvenient and out of the way when I need something....leaving me running up and down for said item.
I've also tried not having a desk altogether, and just keeping my laptop, paraphernalia and papers in a box, and taking them out as needed onto the dining room table. But that also didn't work for me. I often found my stuff still out when the kids came home, and it wasn't good.
What do people do??
Any tips greatly appreciated!
Tia

My mother works part time from home and she has it set up in a quiet place.
But if your quiet place is in the basement that gets a little tricky because not only is it a bother for you, but your kids probably won't like it either.

I work from my dining room table because I need to keep an eye on everyone , and be available to my kids. It didn’t work for me to be in a closed private space . During the day it’s a non issue because nobody is around . It’s when they are off of school , or home from school that gets tough. I’m used to the noise and traffic since I had to do it during Covid and it became part of life to have a little one sneak up onto my screen during a zoom meeting .

I work on the bedroom level upstairs because that’s where I had space. It’s good because I don’t get distracted.

Ya I get it
But bh it gets complicated in such a trafficy area as well- I don't want my papers touched, their friends see me on computer, etc. I know maybe it shouldn't be around when they're home, but life doesn't always work so neatly like that

True, but I find I'm often inconvenienced with having to run up or down for something or other, leaving me feeling disorganized.

You’re saying you use your study; that actually sounds ideal, because it’s on the main floor, but you could also close the door for privacy and less noise. Or is your study more open plan??

Has door, but my kids have their stuff in there too, so I can't lock them out for long.
