Most people light a yartzheit candle specifically I believe. After Yom Kippur is over and it’s time for havdala, I believe you can just light a match from that flame and then light the havdala candle.

Is this yortzeit candle in addition to yortzeit candles for relatives who passed away? Or can be just one?

Make sure you use a 2 day candle, the 1 day don’t always last the 25+ hours

We started adding a bit of oil to the smaller ones, not a lot, just enough to last the extra hour

We were told there needs to be a separate flame designated for using for Havdala

Separate one. The yartzheit candles for relatives are not supposed to be used for anything else.

The one time I tried one of those tricks the candle was out an hour into yontif. Thankfully I had tried it on a day I didn’t really need it I just wanted a more convenient flame to light from the second night.
The cost difference is so minimal I just only buy the 2 day at this point.

Just read abt in in back of artscroll machzor. No time to quote but it says if u don't have one, you skip flame rather than light one for havdala

133:28 At havdalah following Yom Kippur, we only bless over a candle that "rested," not on a candle that was lit from a fire struck now for this purpose. The best way is to light a candle from the candle that one lit in his house before Yom Kippur and to recite the bracha over both of them. If one does not have a light in his house, he may bring the candle that he lit in shul, light his candle from this and recite the bracha over them. In a pinch, one can recite the bracha over a candle that was lit by a non-Jew or that he struck from a match, etc. (It's best to light a candle before Yom Kippur specifically for the purpose of providing fire for havdalah. - Mishnah Brurah 624:13. If one recited havdalah only over a candle that burned all Yom Kippur, even though he shouldn't have, he need not repeat it - MB 624:14. Bi'ur Halacha recommends against relying on the minority opinion that allows one to strike a fire - 624:4 s.v. v'yeish omrim.

This is from Rabbi Tzvi Yaakov Stein, in Far Rockaway.
Motzai Yom Kippur
• Water is allowed before havdala but say Baruch
hamavdil bein kodesh lechol first.61
• Women who want to eat before the men
come home from shul, should make havdala
themselves.62
• If for whatever reason they can’t, eating is allowed
after saying Baruch hamavdil.
• הנה אל ישועתי is not said and nor the Bracha on
besamim. If it was said it’s not a hefsek.
• Havdala must be with a fire that came from a fire
that was lit over Yom Kippur.63
• One wick is sufficient for havdala. A torch or
putting two candles together is not necessary.64
• The candle that’s lit for yizkor should not be used
for havdala65 . If there’s nothing else, light a candle
from the yizkor candle and use that.66
• If the candle went out before havdala then you
must find a fire that was lit from before Yom
Kippur to make havdala.67
• Havdala can be made without fire in order to
break the fast and then go find
The bolded is my own. I didn’t read through the whole thing before Yom Kippur, I only just read it now. I knew the light had to be lit from before Yom Kippur, but I didn’t realize that you need to go looking for a fire if yours goes out.
