Oops I read the question wrong.
I buy a lower quality chinuch set and my 4.5 year old girl and my two boys under 9 will use it to bentch lulav.
Once my boys are 9 I will get them their own in a tier higher.
I think once they start school like 4-5 years old they should do the mitzah with a real lulav/esrog and my husband prefers they not use his since once year it got made posul the first day of yomtov. So I buy a low quality chinuch set.

Why is it to do with age?
I buy them a set when they are old enough to go to shul and participate in the hoshanos.

We buy them their own sets when they're old enough to go to shul and shake during Hallel and Hoshanos.
Somewhere between 6 and 9.

When they are old enough to stay in Shul and daven majority of RH and Yom Kippur then they are also old enough for their own 4 minim and machzarim

No choice in the poll for never.
Our sons use DH's set and will get their own when they get married.

Those who don't buy for boys over 10/11.
Im just curious.
Do your boys beg you for their own? Or try to buy their own? What do they do by Hallel and Hoshanos? Just say it and walk with Arba Minim?
Im not judging or criticizing.
My Rav is very insistent that boys over 10 who are in shul by Hallel and Hoshanos should have their own kosher set. From a halachic perspective.
It's just surprising to me.
Eta that we are also makpid not to use Pasul sets, or give just a lulav or a lemon or something. Our Rav holds that if they ask, we either say yes or no. No shtick
