we moved from a small OOT community. We had daas torah advising us to move, and everything fell into place BH for Lakewood (jobs, schools, etc).
Housing is bigger here, made for large families.
Edited to add - we are very happy Baruch Hashem.

renting. I know some people in lakewood but I haven't been able to spend much time together because I'm working.

yes and yes! reached out in February to over 25 schools to ask for applications and to start the process. It was rough, and in the summer I finally threw up my hands and said "Hashem, they're your children too. If it's good for us to move to Lakewood, please get them into school. Otherwise, we'll keep looking for jobs in other communities." At that point we had jobs lined up. I got the call the next day that we were accepted, and we moved that month.
