mix them. Why not? (some say that the whole idea of not mixing them is based on a misprint)We're litvish.

right, but the whole misprint idea is a funny reason for whole groups abstaining from something...

We mix.

I said litvish...but maybe I should have picked "other." We're Yekke Mo's.

I'm from the Lower East Side, where cream cheese and lox is practically a religious law in and of itself Smile

I know lubavitchers who eat cream cheese and lox. I think some people will eat cheese/butter and fish but not milk with fish.

however, my lubavitch cookbook doesn't have a single recipe containing both dairy and fish.

We mix but fish and milk. It's sort of a lost custom in America by many Sephardic Jews.

I never heard the rule being enforced at home, so I assume that I mix. My family ate cream cheese and lox, and I eat salad with tuna and feta cheese in it...

I'm Lubav. we mix.
the rov told us the issur is for MILK and fish - no problem with cheese and fish.
So we do mix fish with cheese. But if the recipe calls for milk and fish, we use non-dairy creamer.

I grew up mixing it but my inlaws dont. to them it's like not eating kosher.
It's a minhag that my husband and I have not taken on but we are planning to soon and I dont know how I will manage!

Litvish growing up, didn't cook with it. Cream cheese and lox was ok, but fish fried in butter and tuna melts weren't. Now married, and still Litvish and we mix Very Happy Boy was I missing out...

As the prohibition comes, I think, from the Rambam, the Sephardi psak is not to eat it, along the same lines as meat and fish, but for meat and fish not only do we not eat, we wash our hands between fish and meat. I did not grow up with Sephardi minhagim (although I was Sephardi) and dh taught me the rules. I miss those tuna melts, and in our house bagels and lox go with margarine! And they love their lox!
