Is more of a chasidishe thing? So many posts here are saying they barely tip but most of my friends and family tip nicely and we’re not wealthy. So is it different in chasidishe schools? And curious about the modern ones like yeshiva of Flatbush or Magen David?

It’s a possibility as tuition discrepancy is huge between MO schools and Chasidush Schools one could be paying 30000/yr while one can be paying 3500/yr.

My sil worked in one if the aforementioned schools and maybe one parent gave her a gift of recognition. It was something very small.

But like previous poster wrote, parents are paying 30k for tuition vs 3500.

I sent to a jpf school in Brooklyn ans it's definitely a thing.

I’m not in Brooklyn, but I went to MO schools and I sent to MO schools. (Like - WDS, Yavneh , Noam, SAR, RAMAZ, Frisch, TABC). The PTA collects like $18/family (whoever wants to participate and then they sign the card with the names of all the families in the school who participated). This makes a luncheon and they get gift cards (Target/Amazon or the like) for the same amount for the entire faculty-teachers, assistants, resource room, secretaries…….

Most years I participated. Some years I didn’t and did a personalized gift (tumbler with name -cricut or cute slipper socks…). Some years I was tight on cash and just didn’t do anything. I don’t believe anyone notices or remembers foe more than 2 seconds who is on the list and who isn’t.

But as stated above, we pay a hefty tuition and our teachers are paid fairly.

When I was a student in a chassidish school not too long ago the PTA would do it too. Every class had one mother in charge of collecting and buying the gift. Of course some choose to give something on their own but it wasn't as popular as it is today.
I think the old way was better. Everyone gave (or didn't) an equal amount and that was it.

I switched my kid from a yeshivish school to a MO school and was told that giving chanuka and Purim tips was “not a thing” at MO schools. I gave anyhow which I felt a little guilty about (didn’t want to be the cause of it becoming a pressure for other people).

Anyhow… it’s years later and I heard said MO school (which my child already graduated from) now sends out a letter suggesting parents tip! So… I guess it wasn’t a MO thing but is now becoming?

I went to Magen, I never saw/heard parents giving tips or whatnot , maybe a class gift but never an actual check even to the rabbis but maybe times have changed
