My 4 yo bites her toenails. She bites her finger nails too. She tells me “it doesn’t feel good when they’re on”.
This is sort of sudden onset. Started a few weeks ago.
I bought her socks for at night, as a preventative. It worked for a bit. I tried telling her if they’re too short they can hurt her and germs can get in bec nails block the germs… it’s almost like a compulsion.
As I type she whipped off her tights and is biting them.
(!!!!!!)
I do think she needs OT evaluation for emotional regulation.
Any ideas???

my brother who is married with kids did this as a kid for many many years.
it was just a habit in his case, no underlying issues...

a few of my kids did this. bh they all grew out of it. (I have one that still does)
the Mavala worked for some (its like a nail polish, that gives you an awful taste if you put in your mouth and takes forever to go away...) you can buy at pharmacy
I agree, it's nauseous

Is it only when the nails are a certain length? Could you clip them sooner and make sure they stay short?

No they haven’t been cut in ages because she bites them and that keeps them short
